Carroll University football players Reed Breckheimer and Amarrion Bridges have been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances in a recent game. North Central College’s Thomas Skokna was also recognized for his special teams play.
Breckheimer, a senior from Hilbert, Wisconsin, earned the offensive award after leading Carroll to a 34-14 victory over Illinois Wesleyan. He rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries and caught eight passes for 63 yards, totaling 163 all-purpose yards. His touchdowns came on runs of 21, 24, and five yards.
Bridges was honored as the defensive player of the week following his performance in the same game. He recorded two interceptions and two pass breakups. One interception came on Illinois Wesleyan’s opening drive and was returned 32 yards to set up Carroll’s first touchdown. The second interception stopped an Illinois Wesleyan scoring attempt in the third quarter.
Skokna received recognition for special teams after helping North Central secure a share of its fourth consecutive CCIW title with a win over Elmhurst. “Skokna broke the game open with a 79-yard punt return touchdown midway through the first quarter,” according to the CCIW announcement. “The senior also caught three passes for 56 yards and two more touchdowns, leading all CCIW players with 18 total points on the day. His effort helped North Central clinch a share of its fourth consecutive CCIW championship.”
The conference also listed previous weekly honorees in each category throughout the season.
