This October marks Italian American Heritage Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the contributions of Italian Americans across the United States. Illinois State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro, who represents the 48th District, has highlighted the importance of this celebration and her role in supporting legislation that officially designates October as Italian American Heritage Month.

Sanalitro stated, "This October, we celebrate the incredible contributions Italian Americans have made to our communities, our culture, and our country. As a proud Italian American lawmaker, I was honored to co-sponsor legislation to formally recognize October as Italian American Heritage Month!"

She emphasized values such as family, faith, hard work, food, music, and innovation as key elements that Italian Americans have contributed to shaping what she describes as the American Dream. "From family, faith, and hard work to food, music, and innovation—Italian Americans have helped shape the American Dream and keep it alive for future generations. Let’s take time to honor those who came before us and the values they carried: strong families, dedication to faith, and a relentless work ethic," Sanalitro said.

Sanalitro concluded with encouragement for all to enjoy this month through traditional celebrations: "Enjoy this month the only way Italians know how – with food, family, and friends."

Sanalitro was elected in 2023 as a Republican representative for Illinois' 48th House District. She succeeded Terra Costa Howard in that role.
