Augustana junior Charlotte Frere and Elmhurst's Tyler Sheehan have been recognized with regional specialty awards by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Frere was named Midwest Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year, while Sheehan received the title of Midwest Region Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year.
The awards were decided through a vote by USTFCCCA member coaches following the 2025 NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships held in Geneva, Ohio. Eligibility for these awards is limited to individuals from programs that are members of the USTFCCCA.
Frere achieved her second consecutive national title in discus, winning by nearly eight feet. This accomplishment marks her as the first women's track & field student-athlete from Augustana to secure multiple national championships. Earlier this season, she recorded a throw of 53.10 meters, ranking as the third furthest in Division III history and the best mark in over two decades.
Sheehan's contribution as an assistant coach was significant in Elmhurst's ninth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. His team excelled in the 4x100-meter relay, achieving a national runner-up position and setting a new school record. At the CCIW Championships, Sheehan's athletes were crucial in securing Elmhurst's first outdoor conference team title, contributing 80 points from his event group alone, including a sweep of the top three positions in the 100-meter hurdles.
