North Central's Matthew Sengphommachanh has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week. This marks the third time in his career and the first time this season that Sengphommachanh has received the accolade.
Last week, Sengphommachanh achieved a flawless 4-0 record for the Cardinals. He won both singles and doubles matches in the league duals against Carroll and Carthage.
During the match against Carroll on Friday, Sengphommachanh paired with Ramon Vilarroig Martinez, winning at #1 doubles with a 6-3 victory over Daniel Ezcurra and Adrian Gomez. He continued his success with a win at #2 singles over Ezcurra.
The next day, North Central triumphed in the doubles matchup against Carthage, where Sengphommachanh and his partner secured a 7-6 win against Elios Brand and Myles Krzewinski. Sengphommachanh also prevailed in his singles match from the second slot, defeating Francisco Silveira 6-4, 6-4.
The recognition continues for notable performances in the 2025 CCIW men's tennis season, with recipients including Matthew Kordesh from Millikin on March 25, Adrian Gomez from Carroll on March 18, and others from previous weeks.
