Sean Noonan, a former Bloomingdale Police Officer and DuPage County Board Member, has announced his candidacy for DuPage County Sheriff. The announcement was made in May 2025 through a video shared on the social media platform X by Mark Weyermuller.
Noonan, a Republican from Elmhurst, previously served as a DuPage County Board Member for District 2 from 2012 to 2020 while working as a patrol sergeant with the Bloomingdale Police Department. According to a candidate Q&A via the Free Library, during his tenure, he chaired the Intergovernmental Committee and the Emergency Telephone System Board, served as vice chair of the Public Works Committee, and participated in several other committees. He emphasizes public safety, lowering taxes, and promoting economic development by bringing a law enforcement perspective to county governance.
According to Noonan, he advocates for fiscal responsibility, transparency, and ethical decision-making. He praised DuPage’s history of operating within budget and cautioned against the economic impact of businesses leaving the county or state. In the 2022 Q&A session, he supported measures to bolster local industry to protect vital sales tax revenue and commended Chairman Dan Cronin’s A.C.T. Initiative for advancing government accountability and openness.
In 2022, when running for County Board, Noonan said that there had been an increase in violent crimes never seen before in DuPage County during the past two years. "The failed policies of the leaders in Cook County have disrupted our quality of life here in DuPage County," he said. "Car jackings, retail thefts, gun-related crimes, catalytic converter thefts and crimes against people have skyrocketed. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes and surroundings."
Sean T. Noonan continues his role as a patrol sergeant with the Bloomingdale Police Department while pursuing his candidacy for sheriff.
