State Representative Amy Grant from Wheaton has put forward a new bill, House Bill 1639, aimed at providing tax relief to day care centers in Illinois. The proposed legislation seeks to exempt certain supplies purchased by these centers from sales taxes, which could potentially lower child care costs and offer better resources for children.
"Child care costs continue to rise and are putting a strain on families across Illinois," said Rep. Grant. "This bill provides meaningful relief to day care providers and enables them to invest in better resources for our children while helping parents keep more of their hard-earned money."
The tax exemption would cover essential supplies such as educational materials and cleaning products necessary for the operation of day care centers. By reducing the financial burden on these facilities, the legislation aims to create a more affordable environment for families and young children.
"Every child deserves a strong start," added Rep. Grant. "This legislation is a step toward making child care more affordable and giving day care centers the resources to provide the highest level of care and education."
House Bill 1639 is currently under consideration in the 104th General Assembly.
