State Representative Amy Grant from Wheaton has put forward a bill aimed at maintaining the integrity of voter rolls in Illinois. The proposed legislation, known as HB1454, seeks to mandate county clerks to utilize death certificates for the removal of deceased individuals from voter registration lists. This initiative is intended to minimize the risk of voter fraud and uphold fair and secure elections within the state.

"Maintaining accurate voter rolls is critical to protecting the integrity of our elections," stated Rep. Grant. She emphasized that requiring county clerks to promptly update these records is a "common-sense step" necessary to prevent misuse of outdated registration information.

The bill outlines a clear procedure for using death certificates to ensure that voter registration lists are current and reliable. By addressing this issue, the legislation aims to bolster public trust in local election authorities by closing gaps in the system caused by natural changes in voter demographics.

"Every Illinois voter deserves to know that our elections are fair, secure, and trustworthy," added Rep. Grant. She highlighted that this legislative effort is designed to safeguard democracy while promoting long-term voter integrity.

Currently, the bill is under review by the 104th General Assembly.
