State Representative Amy Grant from Wheaton has put forward a resolution, HR93, aimed at promoting civic architecture in Illinois' public buildings. The proposal seeks to ensure that these structures reflect the state's historical and cultural heritage.
"Our public buildings should inspire pride and represent the values of the communities they serve," said Rep. Grant. "This resolution promotes timeless architectural styles that connect us to our shared heritage while ensuring public input shapes these important spaces."
The resolution outlines several key points for public buildings:
- They should feature traditional and classical architectural styles that honor Illinois’ history.
- Buildings must be visually recognizable as civic spaces.
- The design process should include input from Illinois residents.
Furthermore, the measure instructs the Illinois Capital Development Board to create new architectural guidelines prioritizing these principles, under supervision from the Governor’s Office.
"Illinois is home to a rich architectural legacy we should celebrate in the buildings we leave for future generations," added Rep. Grant.
Currently, this resolution is being considered by the 104th General Assembly.
