A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Butler School District 53 on January 28, 2025. The request was made by us at the DuPage Policy Journal, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The request specifically asked for copies of all emails and memos from the past year that contain the keywords "Lucy Calkins" and "Units of Study". These terms are related to popular educational programs and curricula, suggesting a focus on understanding how these topics are being discussed within the school district.

As journalists, we believe in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to these records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We have requested these documents under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, preferably in an electronic format.
