FOIA Request Sent to Glenbard Township High School District 87 Regarding Enrollment of Non-U.S. Citizens on January 13, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Glenbard Township High School District 87 in Illinois on January 13, 2025, by us at the DuPage Policy Journal. The request sought to ascertain the number of non-U.S. citizens, often referred to as "migrants" or "illegal aliens," currently enrolled in the school district.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe access to such public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and it was requested that the information be provided in an electronic format if possible. We also indicated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional involved in gathering and reporting news to the public.

According to the Illinois Report Card, the average state teacher salary in 2023 was $73,916, and the state average Administrative Salary was $116,908. The average student-to-administrative ratio is 141:1, and the average student-to-teacher ratio is 17:1. Furthermore, it's noteworthy that 58% of teachers in Illinois have a master's degree or higher.

We are awaiting a response from Glenbard Township High School District 87 regarding this FOIA request.
