DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Chief of Police Roy Selvik have announced that two juveniles charged with carjacking a couple at gunpoint in Addison will remain detained until their next court appearance. The juveniles, a 17-year-old male from Bensenville and a 16-year-old male from Willowbrook, are facing charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and armed robbery with a firearm, both classified as Class X felonies.

The incident occurred on December 29, 2024, at approximately 7:41 p.m. at the Marcus Cinema on W. Lake Street. According to reports, one victim exited his vehicle to open the door for the female passenger when they were approached by three armed individuals. Two of these individuals allegedly wore masks and emerged from a nearby grey Dodge Challenger. One suspect reportedly demanded the man's keys and belongings before entering the victims' white Infinity and driving away alongside the Dodge.

Police later located the Infinity but ended their pursuit on I-290 after it failed to stop. The Dodge was subsequently found traveling westbound on I-290 near Austin Boulevard. Despite attempts to stop it, the vehicle continued until officers managed to box it in at I-290 and 1st Avenue, where arrests were made. A search of the Dodge revealed firearms including a modified Glock handgun.

State’s Attorney Berlin stated, “The brazen, armed carjacking allegedly committed by these two juvenile defendants at a popular movie theater is unconscionable.” He praised law enforcement for their swift action in apprehending the suspects.

Chief Selvik added, “This was a heinous act committed by individuals who have no regard for human life.” He emphasized the importance of community safety and commended all involved agencies for their assistance.

The juveniles are scheduled to appear in court again on January 9, 2025. Authorities remind the public that charges are not proof of guilt; the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
