City of Elmhurst City Council met April 1

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to Order - Mayor Levin called the meeting to order at 7:32pm.

Absent: Emily Bastedo

Alderman Talluto pulled 5.6 from the consent agenda. Alderman Jensen moved to accept the consent agenda minus item 5.6.  Alderman Bram seconded.

Ayes: Guido Nardini, Mike Brennan, Rex Irby, Marti Deuter, Jennifer Veremis, Jacob Hill, Karen Sienko, Chris Jensen, Michael Bram, Brian Cahill, Noel Talluto, Tina Park, and James Nudera

Nays: None

13 Ayes, 0 Nays, 1 Absent

Motion carried

5.6 Alderman Cahill moved to accept the report. Alderman Bram seconded. Alderman Talluto stated she does support the report but has some concerns over having fully electric vehicles being appropriate for public safety, however hoping risk is minimal and trusts in the police department. She indicated concern in the higher budget costs for vehicle and installation of charging station costs. Alderman Brennan inquired of installation costs as well. He is hoping to learn a lot with the lower vehicle maintenance. Alderman Irby spoke in support of the report. He stated that it has been lower maintenance for his own vehicle. He also stated this has been fully vetted by the Michigan PD for one year. Alderman Hill spoke in support of the report and hopes to get more life out of the vehicles while wondering the rationale of replacing after five years.

6. Reports and Recommendations of Appointed and Elected Officials

Mayor Levin - The Mayor announced the delivery of oath to new lateral transfer police officer that morning. He also announced the ground breaking of the 9/11 Memorial Plaza on Friday 4/5, 10am, at fire station 2.

City Manager Grabowski - City Manager stated that updates on 294/290 construction and closings can be found on city website. The Public Works Citizen Academy runs from 4/11-5/9, residents can sign up on city website. Saturday Spring cleanup dates: 4/13 for Wednesday pickups, 4/20 for Thursday pickups, and 4/27 for Friday pickuips.

7. Ordinance (s)

7.1 O-26-2024 - An Ordinance Authorizing the City of Elmhurst to Waive Bidding and Purchase One (1) 2024 Ford Edge SE AWD Demonstrator and Authorizing the Disposal and Trade-In of One (1) 2016 Ford Edge for the City’s Police Department’s Investigations Division (See Item 5.11)

Alderman Cahill moved to accept the ordinance. Alderman Bram seconded. Alderman Cahill spoke in support of the ordinance requesting council to suspend the rules and waive bidding due to timing to purchase the vehicle.

Ayes: Guido Nardini, Mike Brennan, Rex Irby, Marti Deuter, Jennifer Veremis, Jacob Hill, Karen Sienko, Chris Jensen, Michael Bram, Brian Cahill, Noel Talluto, Tina Park, and James Nudera

8. Other Business -  None

9. Adjournment - Alderman Brennan moved to adjourn from the meeting. Alderman Hill seconded. A voice vote was taken.  Motion passed unanimously.

 Meeting adjourned at 8:05pm.
