Former IL State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R) said that Democrats who "don't shun" Step. Rep. Anne Stava-Murray (D-Downers Grove)'s bill to label parents as "abusive" for refusing abortion or chemical castration for their children out to "lose their seats."

"Benet grad Anne Stava-Murray, who Downers Grove voted for her three times, filed HB 4876 which designates parents as abusive for refusing to allow gender change or an abortion," Ives posted on X. "Democrats who don't shun her for this evil, should lose their seats, too."

HB 4876, introduced by Stava-Murray on Feb. 7, would amend the "Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act" to define "abused child" as one whose parent "or any person responsible for the children's welfare" refuses to allow the child to have an abortion or receive chemical castration, according to the bill summary. 

A 2004 graduate of Catholic high school Benet Academy in Lisle, Stava-Murray has represented Illinois' 81st House District since 2019. She was formerly a commissioner of the Naperville Fire and Police Board. A graduate of Dartmouth College, she lives in Downers Grove with her husband and three children.

Stava-Murray was also the lead sponsor of HB 2789, a 2023 bill singed into law by Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) that required school and community libraries to stock pornographic books like Gender Queer, which depicts oral and gay sex in comic book illustrations, aimed at middle school children.

In January 2021, KSDK reporter Mark Maxwell reported that Stava-Murray "broadsided" then-House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) "for his Catholic faith. 

"She apparently felt his religious beliefs were an obstacle to passing a more progressive agenda," reported Maxwell. 

Ives, in addition to representing Illinois' 42nd House District, is a former Republican candidate for governor. She also a member of the Wheaton City Council, attended the U.S. Military Academy and was an officer in the U.S. Army. Ives is host of "The Real Story" on AM 560 in Chicago.
