Niki Conforti, a candidate for the 6th Congressional District, has publicly criticized Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's recent actions. She characterized them as "unacceptable" and grounds for impeachment, citing his absence from his post as a risk to national security.

“While I wish the Secretary of Defense a speedy and full recovery, what he did was unacceptable and worthy of impeachment,” Conforti said. “He left our country fully exposed to enemy threats by disappearing from his post!”

“No one knew where he was for days.”

In addition to her criticism of Austin's absence, Conforti also expressed concern over what she perceives as his failure to uphold his duty to protect American citizens.

"Regardless of his personal situation, he has an obligation to defend the American people," she said on Facebook. "He failed. It’s time for him to go!!"

Despite these criticisms, President Joe Biden has no plans to dismiss Austin following his hospitalization due to complications from elective surgery, according to the New York Post. The White House maintains that the president is focused on Austin's health and recovery and looks forward to his return to the Pentagon. Austin, aged 70, has been at Walter Reed Army Medical Center since New Year’s Day with Deputy Secretary Kathleen Hicks temporarily assuming duties.

Austin's sudden disappearance and delayed notification about his condition have raised concerns among both Democrats and Republicans who are calling for greater transparency. Former President Donald Trump joined these voices in questioning Austin's whereabouts during his absence.

"He has been missing for one week, and nobody, including his boss, Crooked Joe Biden, had a clue as to where he was or might be," Trump wrote on Truth Social Sunday.

Conforti's background includes work as an energy consultant and a 12-year tenure in healthcare within large health systems. She earned her degree from the University of Chicago School of Economics and an MBA in Healthcare Administration from George Washington University. Conforti's family history is marked by immigration, and she carries a military tradition within her familial roots. Beyond her political aspirations, Conforti is also actively involved in community service and philanthropy, contributing to initiatives organized by her church and supporting organizations such as International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) and Mothers2Mothers Charities, according to her website.

The 6th Congressional District encompasses parts of Cook County, eastern DuPage County, and the far Southwest Side of Chicago. It includes communities such as Orland Hills, Western Springs, Orland Park, Palos Hills, Hickory Hills, Chicago Ridge, Bridgeview, Willow Springs, Indian Head Park, Tinley Park, Evergreen Park, Downers Grove, Lombard, Villa Park, Westmont, Elmhurst, Lisle, Darien and Wheaton. The district is currently represented by U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-Ill.), according to congress.gov.
