Nicole La Ha, a former Homer Glen trustee, has been appointed to fill the vacancy in the 82nd State House District following the resignation of John Egofske, who stepped down to focus on his role as Lemont’s mayor. La Ha is also a candidate for Illinois State Representative District 82, in 2024.

“Thank you for this tremendous honor and opportunity to represent our 82nd District,” La Ha Zwiercan said on Facebook.

“I promise to be a family-focused voice that unites our community prioritizing safe neighborhoods, exceptional schools and lower taxes. I’m ready to get to work!”

The appointment was announced by House Republican leaders who emphasized La Ha’s dedication towards children and public safety.

"Nicole La Ha brings an exciting blend of passion, dedication, and leadership to the 82nd District," House Minority Leader Tony McCombie said in a news release.

Having previously filed to run as a Republican in the March primary, La Ha voiced her honor at serving as state representative. She underscored her experiences in public service and advocacy which positions her as a candidate focused on addressing diverse needs.

Her extensive background in public advocacy includes active involvement in charitable committees and receiving the prestigious 2018 International Humanitarian Award for exceptional community service. Her campaign website highlights her unwavering commitment to community service. It showcases her election to the Village of Homer Glen Board of Trustees in 2021 where she staunchly opposed tax increases and played a crucial role in improving life quality for residents with disabilities. In recognition of her remarkable service, La Ha was crowned Mrs. America in 2022.
