GOP Congressional candidate Niki Conforti of Illinois’ 6th District criticizes Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, alleging that Republicans blocked an impeachment resolution over his handling of border security. Conforti accuses Mayorkas of jeopardizing national security by implementing lenient immigration policies, and despite the failed impeachment attempt, vows to continue pushing for Mayorkas’s removal, citing concerns over border security and the safety of Americans.
“Mayorkas impeachment blocked by Republicans!” Conforti said on Facebook. “It’s shocking - but true!”
“Mayorkas has failed the American people by opening our borders, keeping them open, and allowing known terrorists from foreign adversaries to enter our country- and putting us at risk. He does not deserve to be our homeland security head and should be impeached!”
According to Conforti, ensuring the safety and security of Americans should not be jeopardized.
Mayorkas was accused of violating the Immigration and Nationality Act by implementing "catch and release" policies, ending contracts for border wall construction, and abandoning Trump-era immigration policies. The rejected resolution aimed to force a debate on these charges in the House, potentially leading to a vote on articles of impeachment against Mayorkas.
Republican Reps. Ken Buck (R-Colo.), Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), Tom McClintock (R-Calif.), Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), John Duarte (R-Calif.), Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), Cliff Bentz (R-Ore.), and Mike Turner (R-Ohio) voted against the impeachment, according to the New York Post.
That effort was led by U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who vowed she would seek another impeachment vote.
"The days are numbered for Secretary Mayorkas," Greene said on Facebook. "Our southern border is being invaded and Americans are being murdered every day on his watch."
"It’s time for Secretary Mayorkas to resign, and if he doesn’t he’s going to be impeached."
