Representative Grant recently attended a successful multi-school district legislative roundtable, where a variety of challenges facing students, families, teachers, and school districts were discussed. The roundtable provided an opportunity for stakeholders to come together and address important issues in the education system.

During the first part of the roundtable, the focus was on student needs in a post-pandemic world. Attendees expressed concerns about chronic absenteeism, learning loss, and economic struggles. They emphasized the importance of after-school clubs and groups, parent involvement in the PTA, as well as special education and individual education plans.

The second part of the conversation centered around the mental health challenges faced by students. One particularly impactful program was highlighted, which is a collaboration with Edward Elmhurst Health. This program covers up to 8 therapy sessions per child, benefiting students across 9 school districts in DuPage county. The participants discussed future considerations for sustaining the program, such as adjusting to 6 covered sessions and having family insurance cover the remainder. Additionally, there was mention of introducing tele-health options to provide flexible and convenient schedules for students.

Among the school districts represented at the roundtable were Naperville School District 203, Indian Prairie School District 204, and Community Unit School District 200. Naperville School District 203 is known for its high graduation rate of 96% and its 4 Blue Ribbon awards. Indian Prairie School District 204 proudly stands as the fourth-largest district in Illinois and has an exceptional academic record. Community Unit School District 200 consistently strives for excellence, as evidenced by its placement on the AP Honor Roll.

Representative Grant expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent and work alongside these education providers in the 47th district. The roundtable was an important step towards addressing the needs of students and working towards a better future for education.
