DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick has been silent on the Willowbrook mass shooting which resulted in one death and 22 injuries.

The shooting occurred during a Juneteenth celebration.

Video from the shooting released by NBC 5 Chicago shows partygoers running and screaming as bullets rip through the crowd.

The shooting lasted only 30 seconds in which 23 were shot.

The family of the slain man Reggie Meadows has been asking for answers.

“I just want to know what’s the reason of my brother being killed? There’s no information. There’s been nothing displayed to me or the mother of his children,” Darren Meadows, Reggie Meadows brother asked WGN in July, about a month after the shooting.

Mendrick has not spoken publicly about the shooting and requests for information have been denied.

The shooting remains unsolved despite deputies being on hand at the time for crowd control.

Mendrick notably engaged in a feud on the topic when he accused Chicago’s Morning Answer radio host Dan Proft of being a “cop hater” after Proft invited him on the air to speak about the shooting.

Their exchange on Twitter occurred after Proft invited the sheriff to join him on his radio show to discuss the Willowbrook incident with the perpetrators still at large.

The dispute centered on the handling of the investigation and demands for more transparency and law enforcement presence in the area, with Congressman Sean Casten’s criticism of Republicans’ stance on gun regulation also coming into focus.
