The Addison Village Board honored three local basketball teams for their accomplishments during a meeting held on April 3, also recognizing other teams which were unable to attend the meeting in person.

Addison Youth Sports (AYS) Vice President Michael Haag discussed news from the organization, introducing several AYS basketball coordinators and directors who explained how the program was born through multiple organizations merging to have greater coordination and purchasing power and to unify the Addison community. They noted seeing much growth since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and celebrated their strong season.

"We have a very special recognition this evening," said Mayor Rich Veenstra "Normally we don’t see this many people in the board room. But we really have turned into a sports championship center in Addison. We have had a lot of recent champions in different sports, and I am just pleased to say we are going to recognize three teams tonight that have won championships in basketball."

The 3rd/4th championship team, the Addison Purple Lakers, was undefeated throughout its season, with the young boys' team maintaining a 12-0 win record. Each player was called in front of the Board to be recognized, and the team was applauded by the National Basketball Association's Chicago Bulls for its excellent season. The 3rd/4th girls' team was also recognized for its championship win, with its coach being overwhelmed by the team's growth and improvement throughout the season.

The 5th/6th boys' team was the final one to be recognized during the meeting, having fought through a hard season to ultimately win in the end. The fourth Addison team who made it to the championship was unable to attend the meeting. Veenstra and the City Council took pictures with each team and congratulated the students, coaches and parents on a job well done this past season. The Council was excited to see the program continue to grow, excel and bring Addison more championship wins in the future.
