Parents' rights advocacy group Awake Illinois is warning of opponents who are seeking to shutter the organization’s events by threatening protest.
“Communists are calling area hotels to cancel our 1/14/23 workshop," Awake Illinois posted on Twitter.
"WOW--the anti-child, anti-liberty haters are SCARED! They are literally yelling at hotel staff when they call to sniff out our event. So much for love and peace and tolerance. Swamp scumbags LOL”
The seminar is an all-day event scheduled for Jan. 14 to be held in Itasca. The advocate workshop is being co-sponsored by Awake Illinois and Moms for Liberty.
“Parents, school board candidates, and community members are invited to attend this all-day seminar in Itasca, IL. This series of workshops will cover parental rights, education, and civic topics. Awake members get a 20% discount on tickets (see newsletter),” Awake Illinois said of the event on its website.
Awake Illinois is linked to a tweet from a local activist.
“Awake thinks they are hosting an "Advocate Workshop" at the Westin in Itasca. They already got booted from the Hilton, let's shut it down again. No hate groups in our communities!!! @Marriott @MarriottBonvoy,” Matilda Madchen posted.
The group provided a script for the phone call to would-be callers as well.
“SCRIPT: IAM CALLING ABOUT A WORKSHOP BY AWAKE AND MOMS FOR LIBERTY AT YOUR WESTIN HOTEL IN ITASCA, ILLINOIS ON JANUARY 14. AWAKE & MOMS FOR LIBERTY HAVE CAUSED HARM IN OUR COMMUNITIES BY SPREADING FEAR & HATRED. THEIR FOLLOWERS MAKE THREATS & COMMIT HATE CRIMES. DO NOT ENABLE MORE HATE IN OUR COMMUNITIES. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO RECRUIT & TRAIN AT YOUR HOTELS,” the script reads.
The event was previously scheduled to be held at the Hilton Oak Brook which canceled its contract with Awake Illinois after the same group making calls threatened to protest.
“We had the location listed and in true, anti-free speech mob fashion they've been calling the property, demanding that they cancel us and they did it,” Adcock previously told DuPage Policy Journal. “Across the country, the anti-free speech mob smears who they fear. So they fear a weak Illinois. They fear for liberty. They fear anyone that's going to disrupt a system that is trying to destroy the Constitution of the United States, destroy parental rights and destroy liberty. So they smear who they fear and they clearly fear again, a weak Illinois of Moms for Liberty and any grassroots group that is for the U.S. Constitution and for this republic. That's where we've arrived in 2022, going on 2023.”
