The Indian Prairie Educational Foundation and District 204 recently presented the February A+ Award to three outstanding IPSD 204 educators. Jean Domyancic, second grade teacher at Owen Elementary, Sheila Mertes, Teaching Assistant at Scullen Middle School, and Albert Zika, science teacher at Metea Valley High School, were surprised with the news of their award. You canwatch the A+ AwardSurprise Squad’s visit to recognize each for "Making a Difference."
Owen parent nominator, Danielle Seago shared that Mrs. Domyancic is “a continual champion of her students and encourages confidence and builds their independence.” The middle school winner was nominated by Scullen parent Amanda Scipione. “Mrs. Mertes goes above and beyond to ensure my daughter and every student feels included,” Scipione said. The high school winner received nominations from two students. Anabel Orchard said, “Mr. Zika has positively influenced me in so many ways as a student and as a person. He inspired me to hopefully go into teaching as a future career because I also want to make a positive everlasting impact on students.” Metea Valley student Marley Schroeder shared that Mr. Zika “always makes sure that everyone who asks for help gets it, and he always make sure that his classroom is a positive space.”
Wells Fargo Advisors is partnering with IPEF and District 204 for the eighth year to help recognize three staff members each month for making a difference for students. To celebrate these staff members that go above and beyond, Wells Fargo Advisors is donating $200 for each staff member to use in his or her school.
Nominations are welcome from parents, alumni, community members, and students. Share your story about a teacher, secretary, bus driver, crossing guard or custodian, and how they made a difference for you or your student. Nominate a staff member by visitingA+ Award.

Illinois 5Essentials Survey for Parents
Deadline March 11
Next Friday, March 11 is the deadline for parents, students and teachers to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school.
To take this short survey:
1. Visit 5 Essentials Survey Link
2. Type and select “Dupage” as "County." (The county is the location of the school district's main office.)
3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.

Because the state's primary election had initially been scheduled for March 15, that day was originally listed in our calendar as a No School day.
With the primary election now rescheduled to June, March 15 will be a regular day of attendance.
