State Rep. Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) was hoping to see attendees at his recent Employment Readiness Webinar connect with open positions at local companies.
"As many of you know jobs are very important to me,” Lewis said in a video posted to YouTube as he was set to host his July 21 event. “I believe that having someone being able to work and be employed is very beneficial in life. I'm very honored today to be able to put on this webinar to those in my district and those visiting who may be out of my district."
At the time, Lewis estimated that as many as 1,000 jobs were available in and around his 45th District. Lewis partnered with the DuPage Workforce Development Division to make the event happen.
“Today, companies are hiring employees in ways we’ve never seen before,” he said in a post to his website. “The goal of our Employment Readiness Webinar is to help job-seekers navigate this ever-changing landscape, and connect them to open positions with local companies.”
Participants had the added option of taking part in virtual workshops about what employers are looking for during virtual interviews, including tutoring about what kinds of questions to ask, how to best present their resumes and how to identify job scams.
Jim Fergle, of WorkNewDuPage.org, a job creating organization, briefed attendees on the different kinds of interviews and how to best prepare for them.
The Cheese Merchants, Greco & Sons, and NOW Health Group were also on hand to discuss employment opportunities and the hiring process.
