I. Call to Order
● Meeting started at 7:02 PM, January 20, 2021
II. Approval of Minutes
● Laurel made the motion to approve the December minutes. Seconded by Janet. Approved unanimously
III. Public Comment
● None
IV. Ongoing Business
● Signage and Roadway Markings Proposal feedback from John Duguay
i. Joe Tebrugge, Director of Engineering, makes decisions about traffic signage established for traffic control. There is a particular issue with signage at the Prairie Path where it is near the railroad tracks: can’t stop cars for bikers/walkers on Prairie Path if cars may be stopped on railroad tracks.
ii. John says that painting at x-walks needs to receive better maintenance, but Joe doesn’t favor adding new signage that could stop traffic on the tracks.
iii. Wheaton Center will add a painted “stop bar” for cars exiting the parking structure, with “STOP” painted in front of the painted bar. Sidewalk is also the Prairie Path here and is DuPage County property, restricting what the city can do.
iv. Liberty & Carlton - John will reach out to the County to see what they say about WBAC marking suggestions, then he will get back to us with an answer.
v. Main St & Pace Bus Stop is County property, so the City won’t do anything. Bikes need to watch for pedestrians.
vi. John was friendly to the idea to add more Prairie Path signs along the route to enhance awareness
vii. Re: green paint through intersections in Chicago & Aurora - John not very familiar with this
● Bike Shelter/Repair Station/Map Sign Discussion with John Duguay
i. Station will hold 22 bikes under covered space. There will be a bike repair station slightly to the west of it. There will also be a station to fill water bottles and to provide water for dogs. Nearby will be six tables and a ping pong table.
ii. John agreed that the Wheaton Bike Map can be posted in the shelter or at a free-standing display. City Sign Dept could print the map w QR code on a permanent sign, possibly.
iii. Work on this structure with the reconstruction plan, in May/June, running into the fall. Alternate Prairie Path route will be established during construction.
● Sticker Distribution and Map Placement
i. Saturday, January 30th, 1:00 PM at City Hall, WBAC members should meet to pick up maps and stickers
