Villa Park FD responds to 74 fires in 2018

Villa Park Fire District responded to 259 calls in 2018 - 1.6 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Villa Park included 74 fires - 58 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and nine other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $286,575 in fire loss - or about $3,873 per fire.

The department also received 182 false calls, including one malicious call and 181 other false calls.

The calls resulted in five civilian fire-related injuries and one civilian fire-related death.

The Villa Park Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 26 active employees and 23 retired or inactive employees, was $428,425 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,694 for every fire in 2017.
