Village of Bartlett issued the following announcement on Aug. 2.
Bartlett Police Department reminds motorists to be alert and slow down when students return to school on Wednesday, 8/14. Police urge drivers to obey school speed zone signs, refrain from using their cellular telephones and pay attention for students walking to and from school. Also be careful when school buses are picking up and dropping off students at school and in the residential neighborhoods. Police also advise motorists to allow for longer commute times when traveling to and from work due to heavier traffic congestion near the schools.
Police encourage students who walk to and from school to always look both ways before crossing the street, obey the school crossing guards, watch out for turning vehicles and try to walk with a parent, sibling, friend or a neighbor.
During the first week of school, Bartlett Police will be conducting extra patrols near the elementary schools and surrounding neighborhoods and will also be expanding traffic enforcement activities in the school speed zones.
