WHEATON POLICE DEPARTMENT: Attempted Child Abduction Reported

Local Government

By Press release submission | Jul 27, 2019

Wheaton Police Department issued the following announcement on July 24.

On July 24, 2019, at approximately 11:45 a.m., the Wheaton Police Department responded to the 200 block of S. Pierce for an attempted child abduction.

A juvenile reported he was mowing the front lawn of their residence when approached by an African American or Hispanic male driving a black SUV with black rims and tinted windows. The male driver asked the juvenile to mow his lawn and invited the juvenile into the vehicle. The male driver retracted the offer after the juvenile advised a parent would have to drive them. The male driver was described as in his 40s, average build, medium length black hair, unshaven, wearing a gray/white hooded sweatshirt.

This incident does not appear to be connected to an earlier report of an attempted child abduction in the 300 block of S. Pierce. (Information about the earlier report is available on the City's website.)

The Wheaton Police Department encourages anyone with information to contact Lieutenant Bill Cooley at 630-260-2077.
