Naperville Police Department issued the following announcement on May 29.
Earlier this month, the Naperville Police Department joined with numerous police agencies in northern Illinois to conduct a traffic safety initiative along the Route 59 corridor.
Participating agencies included police departments from the cities of Antioch, Barrington Hills, Bartlett, Hoffman Estates, Joliet, Naperville, Plainfield, Shorewood, West Chicago, Warrenville and Wauconda along with the Cook, DuPage, Lake and Will county sheriff’s departments.
The purpose of the initiative was to increase the safety of citizens utilizing the thoroughfare through education and traffic enforcement. Enforcement efforts concentrated on speed, distracted driving and occupant restraint violations as well as other safety violations.
During the one-day mobilization, the above agencies conducted 368 traffic stops, resulting in 261 total citations, including but not limited to:
- 162 speeding citations
- 85 electronic communication device citations
- 5 suspended license citations
- 4 seat belt citations
- 3 child restraint citations
