Deanne Mazzochi wants to take the 47th House District into the land of the College of DuPage.

“Remember what you heard three years ago,” Mazzochi posted on her website of the hidden spending and severance package scandal that led to the ouster of former president Dr. Robert Breuder. “It was so bad that the Higher Learning Commission even placed the College on probation.”

Mazzochi, who is running against Democrat Jim Caffrey to replace retiring Rep. Patti Bellock (R-Hinsdale) in November’s general election, counts being a part of the reform effort at the school as one of her biggest accomplishments and points to it as an example of what she can bring to Springfield.

"When we hired our next President, we involved all of our stakeholders; held multiple public open meetings; and reiterated a return to transparency and real oversight,” she added, highlighting that the most recent Higher Learning Commission team report confirms, “College of DuPage has made significant progress on the governance and ethics issues that undermined the confidence of the public in the institution’s leadership.”

Mazzochi said residents of the district sought her out as a natural replacement for Bellock.

“Patti Bellock has long served District 47 in Springfield,” she added on her website. “When she announced her decision to retire, I received many phone calls and e-mails urging me to run for the seat. I am honored to have the support of so many who want to see me bring my skills to Springfield.”

Mazzochi insists that would all begin with a series of structural reforms.

“They know that the last tax increase didn’t decrease Illinois’s structural debt one bit and they don’t expect this one to either when Springfield won’t get its spending under control,” she added of residents. “They want to protect their schools, homes and families; a growing economy; and witness a return to responsible governance in Springfield.”

A graduate of Boston University and George Washington University law school, Mazzochi resides in Elmhurst with her husband and children, who attend public school there.

The 47th District includes all or parts of Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Westmont and Western Springs.
