Jack Island, owner of the Silverado Grill on Spring Road, will be inducted into the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ECCI) Civic Hall of Fame for his contributions to the chamber and the Elmhurst community at large.
Island will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the chamber's 99th annual Awards Gala and 100th Birthday Bash on Jan. 26. He will be the 26th person inducted into the Hall of Fame since its creation in 1992, a posting on the chamber's website said.
“Jack Island is one of those regular down-to-earth guys who never hesitates to roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty for the good of others,” ECCI President and CEO John R. Quigley said in the posting.

Island has been a member of the chamber since 1986 and has frequently helped the chamber and nonprofit organizations by hosting fundraising events, such as the ECCI annual Pig Roast, the City of Elmhurst Department of Public Works’ annual Holiday Luncheon and events for the Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation and the Great Lakes Lab Rescue, the posting said. Island also helps students from Lincoln Elementary School learn about operating a business and applying the skills they learn in the classroom through the Silverado Jr. program, offered in partnership with Community Bank of Elmhurst.
