9. Old Business Member Healy arrived at 8:20 AM.

Pertaining to FI-R-0486-17: Certified Personnel Total for the DuPage County Sheriff's Office for Fiscal Year 2018...

Discussion began with Chairman Eckhoff stating something to the effect, that budget cuts in Springfield have resulted in all County Departments experiencing a budgetary reduction of 4%. County departments are eligible to cut any line item to meet the 4% reduction. Eckhoff then invited Mr. Fichtner to speak further on the topic.

Mr. Fichtner further expounded that there have been multiple discussions regarding departmental headcounts and balancing the budget. With regards to the Sheriff's Office, the budgetary cut could be met through coming retirements and a 2% reduction in the sworn officer headcount. These statements began a kick off of requests from various JPS Committee members (Member Larson, Member Zay, Member Grasso, Member Tornatore) asking for patrol, jail, and court security personnel statutory requirements and results from previous studies. Furthermore, many JPS members spoke of (and reinforced) the need to balance budgets, be fiscally responsible, all while creating an environment that allows the DuPage Sheriff's Office to be the most productive, ensuring safety. Member DiCianni spoke of the personnel reductions that the Sheriff's Office has recently experienced, and the importance of limiting further cuts to the department. Sheriff

Zaruba was present to speak on behalf of his department, assuring the committee that their budget cut would be met and respected.

The subject was tabled for now, with statutory personnel counts to be forthcoming.
