City of Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board met Jan. 9.

Here is the agenda provided by the Board:

Members Present: Ashley Martínez, Carmen Julia Rodríguez, Héctor Ochoa, Bárbara

Hernández, Janel Cabadas, Néstor García, Samuel Núñez, and Josie Tanksley.

Board Members Absent: Mariana Ponce-Hill, Adrienne Holloway, Junelly

González, Alberto Reynaga, Iliana Rivera, and María Del Carmen Hidalgo

City Representative Present: Dan Barreiro

AHHAB Board Minutes: January 9, 2017

I. Meeting called to order at 4:38 p.m.

II. Welcome AM

III. Acceptance of Agenda: Motion by: CJR, Seconded by NG. Motion carried unanimously.

IV. Acceptance of November 2016 Minutes. Motion by: HO, Seconded by: NG. Motion carried unanimously.

V. Acceptance of December 2016 Minutes. Motion by: HO, Seconded by: BH. Motion carried unanimously.

VI. Finance Report – Funds from Dunham came through, current balance is $31,820.52.

AM asked DB when the City allocation ($20,000) will be deposited in the account.

VII. Festival Funding Application from Compañeros en Salud

a. Event at the Prisco Community Center on April 8, 2017 - 7am-1pm.

b. Motion to donate $500 for Festival Funding Application from AHHAB and $500 from the City of Aurora: Motion by: HO, Seconded by: CJR. Motion carried by Ashley Martínez, Carmen Julia Rodríguez, Héctor Ochoa, Bárbara Hernández, Janel Cabadas, Néstor García, and Josie Tanksley

b. Motion to allocate $600 plus fees to award money for the contests. Motion by: HO, Seconded by: JC. Motion carried by Ashley Martínez, Carmen Julia Rodríguez, Héctor Ochoa, Bárbara Hernández, Janel Cabadas, Néstor García, Samuel Núñez and Josie Tanksley

c. Confirmed Sponsorship for the Breakfast

i. Dr. Granhoff Foundation at $1,500

ii. SD 129 West Aurora, Gold sponsor at $750

iii. Dolan and Murphy, Silver sponsor at $500

iv. Alderman Richard Irving, Silver sponsor at $500

v. Dee N. Basile personal contribution still undetermined

vi. HO will follow up with MH on Old Second Dominion Bank contribution

d. Breakfast miscellaneous items

i. CJR will be doing the PowerPoint presentation

ii. Looking for the National Anthem singer, preferably from Waubonsie Valley HS

iii. AM is checking that speakers are included in our contract

iv. HO is looking for the person who will do the Invocation

v. AH will do the Welcome and introduce the Mayor

vi. SN and BH will present awards recipients this year

vii. HO is looking for the Color Guard, NG suggests Marmion Academy

viii. Need to find someone for the Pledge of Allegiance, preferably from SD 204

ix. Breakfast Buffett will open at 7 AM

x. Set-up will be the night before - Thursday, January 26, 2017 - time to be announced later

xi. Ask HO and AH about items in storage - SN will follow up

1. Storage Facility at Indian Trail, possible pick up on Jan 25, 2017

xii. Need Display of Poster/Coloring Contest winners, JG has them

xiii. Dee Hakala put together baskets for the raffle; we will do the same thing as last year - AM has raffle tickets

xiv. Dee will order flowers and cookies/empanadas – ask MCH who usually takes care of it.

xv. Need friends and volunteers for the day, JT will keep track of volunteers

IX. New Member Recruitment

a. Several applications were received, but the residential addresses were outside of Aurora. New members need to reside in the City of Aurora. Alex Voigt is the contact person for applications at the Mayor Office, interested persons can also apply online.

X. El Dia de los Niños, Chair, Date, Possible Rain Date Location

a. Suggested date - Saturday, April 29, 2017.

XI. Events

a. Rush Copley seminar focusing on back pain - January 12, 2017 - flyer is in English and Spanish

b. Latinas on the Plaza shared an event on our Facebook page - January 21, 2017, Aurora Public Library - providing help to young women in college or recently graduated do their 5-year life plan
