U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) applauded Senate passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The bill passed the Senate 70-27 and now heads to the president's desk.

The bill provides necessary resources for the military, including funding for additional military family housing units at Rock Island Arsenal and new F/A-18 Super Hornets, manufactured at the Boeing plant in St. Louis.

“This bill is an example of bipartisan cooperation in the name of military preparedness,” Kirk said. “For Illinois, there is new military housing for families at Rock Island Arsenal and assurances that Boeing employees will make the Navy’s Super Hornets."

Kirk oversees funding for Department of Defense construction projects, including military family housing units. The NDAA authorizes $20 million for 38 additional family-housing units at Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois. The bill also includes $1.9 million to build a firing range in Sparta, Ill., for the Illinois Army National Guard.

The NDAA also includes $978.7 million for the construction of 12 Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornets.

The NDAA authorizes a total of $611.8 billion for defense programs
