Lipinski unveils $3.2 million grant to improve safety at Midway
Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL), a senior member on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said Tuesday that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded Midway Airport a $3.2 million grant to improve airport safety.
The grant will be used to resurface taxiways and improve the runway lighting system to better handle low-visibility situations.
“The number of passengers flying in and out of Midway Airport is at a record high, and that number is expected to grow as the airport continues to add service to more destinations,” Lipinski said. "That is why I am proud to announce this federal grant, which will help maintain and improve the infrastructure of a facility that is a major economic engine for both the surrounding area and the region. I will continue working to see that the federal government keeps investing in Midway and the neighborhoods and communities that surround it.”
Lipinski had previously announced an FAA award of $10 million to install sound insulation in homes near the airport.
