La Grange Fire Department receives Homeland Security grant.

U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) has announced a grant in the amount of $122,972 to the La Grange Fire Department.

The grant, which comes from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, will be used to help purchase fire equipment, including 22 new self contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs) devices, 22 spare bottles and three additional face pieces. The new SCBAs will replace the existing (1997 standard) units that were purchased in 2001.

“Federal funding is needed to meet the increased demands being placed on our nation's first responders,” Lipinski said. “This grant will allow the La Grange Fire Department to purchase much-needed new equipment. In doing so, they will be able to continue to build upon their already impressive record of service while improving the safety and quality of life of area residents. I know a number of the firefighters in La Grange, and I know their dedication to keeping the people in the village safe.”
