Steven Huffman, deputy chief of administration of the St. Charles Police Department, announced his retirement, effective Aug. 21.
Huffman has served the department for nearly 22 years. He accepted the position of chief of police for the Village of Antioch.
“Steve’s knowledge and experience in law enforcement and commitment to public safety resulted in quality relationships within the community and the city organization,” St. Charles Police Chief Jim Keegan said. “I wish Chief Huffman well in his future endeavors and thank him for his service to our community, the police department and the citizens of St. Charles.”
Huffman started with the St. Charles Police Department in 1993 as a patrol officer. He rose through the ranks, holding positions of detective sergeant in charge of investigations, deputy chief of operations, deputy chief of administration and interim chief of police.
Huffman was instrumental in revising and implementing the city’s liquor code, and served on the team that successfully earned the department its 8th National Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
Prior to joining the department, Huffman served as an aviation mechanic with the U.S. Marine Corps. Huffman holds a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University.
