U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL) will host a Community Leadership Forum on Transportation and Technology 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday at Plainfield Village Hall, 22401 W. Lockport St., Plainfield.
“It’s impossible to overestimate the impact technology has had on how we all get from A to B, whether that’s commuting to Chicago or picking up your kids from school," Hultgren said. "From ‘on-demand’ ride-sharing apps, to new road construction methods and materials, to vehicle-to-vehicle communication and more, new innovative technologies will continue to transform our community. But how do we maintain an understanding of these new technologies, use them for the good of northern Illinois and ensure we are planning ahead for the future as a community? The 14th District has worked together to tackle heroin and painkiller abuse, pursue solutions for health care affordability and accessibility, and maintain local control over education. I am excited about how our community can come together in this next Community Leadership Forum on an issue touching everyone in the Chicago suburbs: transportation.”
Speakers will include Harry Lightsey, executive director of Global Connected Customer Experience in Global Public Policy, General Motors; Timothy Meyer, chief operating officer, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory; Mark Blankenship, crash studies and investigation unit manager, Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety; and Kevin Price, ITS operations engineer, Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Highways.
Born and raised in Illinois, and having spent more than 15 years serving Illinois and its citizens at multiple levels of government, Hultgren's District 14 consists of seven suburban counties: McHenry, Lake, Kendall, Kane, DuPage, DeKalb and Will.
