Lombard begins annual fire hydrant maintenance

Lombard

Village of Lombard Department of Public Works crews have begun performing annual fall fire hydrant maintenance.

Workers will visit more than 900 hydrants over the course of a six-week period.

The fire hydrant maintenance program ensures that Lombard residents receive the highest quality drinking water in their homes and that fire hydrants can be operated by the fire department and village repair crews in time of need.

During hydrant maintenance, each hydrant is thoroughly inspected and port caps are oiled and greased to ensure proper operability. Crews may also flow specific hydrants in order to pull fresh water into the distribution system.

During the six-week project, maintenance crews will focus on northern Lombard, between Maple Avenue and the village’s northern border.

A map of the area is available at www.villageoflombard.org/documentcenter/view/14546.

Residents with questions should contact the public works department at 630-620-5740 or by email at [email protected].
