Downers Grove takes steps to enhance historic preservation.

The Village of Downers Grove created the Architectural Design Review Board (ADRB) Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Historic Preservation last week.

The seven subcommittee members appointed will work with existing ADRB members.

The ultimate goal of the subcommittee is to increase the number of properties designated as landmarks and districts under the Historic Preservation Ordinance. To date, only two properties have sought and received landmark status: 5256 Carpenter St. and 4943 Highland Ave.

The ADRB and subcommittee will meet twice a month from August through October, with a goal of delivering any proposed ordinance change or recommendation to village council by Oct. 31.

Meetings will be held Aug. 5 and 19, Sept. 2 and 16 and Oct. 7 and 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Public Works Facility, 5101 Walnut Ave.

Residents of the Park District elect a non-partisan, five-member board of commissioners to govern the district. The Park Board determines the priorities and defines policies for financing, governance, operation and administration of the Park District. Board members are elected to serve unsalaried, overlapping four-year terms.

Working on behalf of residents are the five elected members of the Board of Park Commissioners. The board sets the priorities and defines the policies for financing, governance, operation and administration of the district.
