Hultgren, Roskam to host Service Academy Day May 9

Svc

Reps. Randy Hultgren (R-IL) and Peter Roskam (R-IL) will host a Service Academy Day May 9 from 9-11:30 a.m.at St. Charles High School, Little Theater, 1020 Durham Road.

“If a student desires to pursue this distinguished education and career, it is important they start the process early in their middle and high school careers," Hultgren said. "Service Academy Day provides interested families with essential information as they consider serving our country through military service."

Presentations will be given by representatives from West Point and the Naval, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine academies. An overview will be provided as to how to apply, and students and parents will be given the opportunity to ask questions. The congressional nominating process will also be discussed.

An appointment to a U.S. service academy requires at least a nine-year service obligation upon graduation. Selections are evaluated on the basis of character, scholarship, leadership and physical aptitude.

More information is available on Hultgren's website at http://hultgren.house.gov/serving-you/service-academy-nominations/service-academy-nominations-faq.

Those attending the event should enter through Door 84. For more information on the service day or nomination process, contact Carol Berger with Hultgren's office at 630-584-2734.
