Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker described the move as “wrong and cruel” and indicated the state is considering contesting the freeze, noting Illinois already employs anti-fraud measures.
State officials say the freeze could impact about 100,000 families and over 152,000 children benefitting from the state’s Child Care Assistance Program, as well as funding for thousands of licensed providers and 275 human service agencies.
