North Central's Joshua Robison earns CCIW wrestling honor after championship run
North Central College junior Joshua Robison has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week. The announcement was made Tuesday following Robison's performance at the 31st Annual Concordia University Wisconsin Open, where he competed in the 141-pound bracket.
Robison, who is ranked seventh nationally and was seeded fourth for the tournament, achieved a 5-0 record during the event. His victories included two technical falls at the start of the day and an 8-1 decision over Patrick Mullen from Wartburg in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Robison faced Sean Conway of Chicago, who is ranked second nationally. Trailing by one point in the final seconds, Robison secured a takedown to win and move on to the finals. He claimed first place after a medical forfeit by Vincent Santaniello of TCNJ.
In addition to Robison’s result, North Central saw eight wrestlers finish in the top six at the event. Chip Guzman, ranked number one at 125 pounds, also won his bracket.
The CCIW has recognized several student-athletes this season as part of its weekly honors: Nov. 25 – Joshua Robison (North Central), Nov. 18 – Cameron Johnson (Aurora), Nov. 11 – Mateo Casillas (Millikin), and Nov. 4 – Ethan Spacht (North Central).
