Millikin wrestler Leno Campbell earns CCIW weekly honor after Fred Johnson Duals

Millikin University senior Leno Campbell has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week after his performance at the Fred Johnson Duals in Rock Island, Illinois.

Competing in the 285-pound weight class, Campbell achieved a 3-0 record during the event. He recorded two pins and one major decision, contributing to Millikin’s three dual victories at the competition hosted by Augustana College. With these results, Millikin remains undefeated as a team this season.

Campbell played a key role in Millikin’s opening dual against Carthage. The team was behind 22-12 before the final two matches. After closing the gap, Campbell secured a win for Millikin with a pin against Chris Gielow in just 48 seconds, resulting in a 24-22 victory. He continued with a 13-5 major decision over Teke Nieto from Augustana as part of a 30-17 win and finished with another fall against Colton O’Hern during a 41-11 victory over Buena Vista.

Following these matches, Campbell improved his individual season record to 13 wins and one loss. Millikin’s overall team record now stands at 12-0, including a perfect 6-0 mark in CCIW dual competitions.

"Campbell delivered the decisive result in Millikin’s opening dual against Carthage. Trailing 22-12 entering the final two bouts, Millikin closed the gap before Campbell secured the comeback with a 48-second pin of Chris Gielow to seal a 24-22 victory."

He followed with "a 13-5 major decision over Augustana’s Teke Nieto in a 30-17 win and closed the day with a fall against Colton O’Hern in a 41-11 victory over Buena Vista."

Campbell's efforts have helped keep both his personal and team records strong as conference play continues.
