Illinois Wesleyan's Barouniotis and Carroll athletes earn CCIW volleyball weekly honors
Illinois Wesleyan’s Alex Barouniotis and Carroll University’s Payton Depies and Maggie McGough have been recognized as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Volleyball Student-Athletes of the Week, according to a statement released by the CCIW on Monday.
Barouniotis received Hitter of the Week honors after leading Illinois Wesleyan to two wins, including a sweep over Millikin that secured at least a share of the CCIW regular-season title. Over the week, Barouniotis recorded 20 kills with an average of 3.33 per set and a .244 attack percentage. She also contributed 21 digs, three aces, two blocks, and an assist. In a match against #13 WashU, she achieved a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, in addition to two aces, an assist, and a block.
Depies was named Setter of the Week for her role in guiding Carroll to victories over Loras and Wheaton. Running the offense in a 5-1 system, she provided 83 assists across two matches for an average of 11.86 assists per set. Depies also added 14 digs during these games.
McGough earned Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week after anchoring Carroll’s defense in their wins against Loras and Wheaton. She averaged 6.29 digs per set for a total of 44 digs during the week, including 32 in a four-set win over Loras.
The announcement also included lists of previous weekly honorees for each category throughout the season.
