Illinois officials report 6,707 coronavirus deaths, with 137,825 confirmed cases
There have been 137,825 confirmed coronavirus cases in Illinois as of June 23, with 6,707 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).
Chicago (50,833 cases) and Cook County (36,951 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,526, while Cook County recorded 1,913 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,399,510, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 24,355 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 65,184 were male and 70,065 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,664, while female deaths stood at 3,037.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,974 Asians, 2,974 whites, 1,880 African-Americans, 1,368 Hispanics, and 165 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
