Hinsdale reported 10 licensed child care providers in 2025

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services reported that Hinsdale had 10 licensed child care providers in 2025.

Nine of these were day care centers, accounting for 90%, while one was a group day care home, making up 10%.

Hinsdale providers care for children from infant age through 12, including infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-age children.

All Hinsdale child care providers deliver services in English, reflecting complete language coverage across the facilities.

Illinois statewide had 8,602 licensed child care facilities in 2025.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has put a hold on some federal child care and family assistance grants for California, Colorado, Minnesota, New York and Illinois due to concerns regarding fraud and misuse, the agency announced Jan. 6. The freeze affects nearly $2.4 billion in Child Care and Development Fund grants, $7.35 billion in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families funds and $869 million from Social Services Block Grants. States must submit documentation before the halted payments are released. 

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker criticized the move as “wrong and cruel”, noting the state might contest the freeze. He emphasized that Illinois already employs anti-fraud procedures.

The state's administration indicated that up to 100,000 families and more than 152,000 children utilizing the Child Care Assistance Program could be impacted, along with thousands of licensed providers and 275 human service agencies.
