The former treasurer of the Goodrich Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), Amanda Piasecki, was charged on March 31 with allegedly stealing more than $13,000 from the organization, according to an April 2 announcement by DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and Woodridge Chief of Police Tom Stefanson. Piasecki turned herself in to authorities at the DuPage County Jail early in the morning after Judge Jill Otte issued an arrest warrant. She was released following her court appearance due to the non-detainable nature of the charges.

Piasecki faces a two-count indictment for theft, including one count for amounts between $10,000 and $100,000 and another for amounts between $500 and $10,000. The indictment alleges that she took approximately $13,062.97 from PTO funds between May 1, 2024 and September 4, 2025 while serving as treasurer.

Berlin said: “Through her alleged actions, Ms. Piasecki abused the trust placed in her by the Goodrich Elementary School PTO for her own personal gain. This money, approximately $13,000, was intended to be used for the benefit of the children of the school, not for Ms. Piasecki’s personal use... If the allegations in this case are proven true... [she] lined her own pockets while depriving... much-needed funding.” Berlin also thanked those who reported concerns and assisted law enforcement during their investigation.

Stefanson said: “This case involved funds that were intended to support students and school programs... I’m proud of the work our investigators put into this case... We remain committed to working alongside our community partners...”

The Goodrich PTO Board stated: “The Goodrich PTO has been advised of these charges against a former PTO board member. This individual no longer has access to PTO finances... We remain committed to transparency...”

Piasecki is scheduled to appear again in court on April 6 before Judge Mia McPherson.

Schools across DuPage County serve large student populations with varied demographics; there were about 142,363 students enrolled countywide with a student-to-teacher ratio averaging thirteen-to-one during the last academic year according to state education data. The county's schools also recorded a teacher absenteeism rate higher than Illinois' average—38.3% compared with a statewide rate of 35.6% as reported by state records.

Enrollment figures highlight diversity among schools; York Community High School had the highest number of white students (1,844), Metea Valley High School had most multiracial students (162), Westmore Elementary had most Pacific Islander students (10), and Addison Trail High School led in Hispanic enrollment (1,259) according to state statistics.

Members of the public are reminded that these are only charges at this stage; Piasecki is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
