FOIA Request to City of Wheaton Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the DuPage Policy Journal have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Wheaton. This request seeks access to records detailing businesses registered with the city in the past week. Specifically, we are requesting information that includes the business name, business number, business type, business address, issued date, status, and registered agent name.
Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we qualify for a fee waiver as media professionals.
This request is also supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Missouri Corporation that assists news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. By leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, this coalition helps pull back the curtain on government actions and informs the American electorate. For more information about their work, please visit [https://stopsecrecy.org/about/](https://stopsecrecy.org/about/).
We look forward to receiving these records promptly and will continue to keep our readers informed about developments in local governmental affairs.
