1. CALL TO ORDER
8:30 AM meeting was called to order by Chair Saba Haider at 8:30 AM.
2. ROLL CALL
Other members present: Paula Deacon Garcia, Yeena Yoo
Staff Present: Steve Travia, Joy Hinz, Geoffrey Matteson, Myles Barnes, Jennifer Boyer, Ian Johnstone, and Nicholas Alfonso.

3. CHAIRWOMAN'S REMARKS - CHAIR HAIDER
Chair Haider welcomed committee members and shared news about a new sustainability initiative she is leading.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT
Kay Mckeen - Executive Director of SCARCE updated the board on the success of their outreach events and highlighted the upcoming events SCARCE is preparing for.

Kane DuPage Soil Water District Presentation

Kat Gerdts, Administrative Coordinator for Kane-DuPage Soil & Water Conservation District talked about the Soil and Water Conservation District's history in Chicago. Kat shared how SWCD is mandated to exist and highlighted how its leadership operates. Additionally, Kat explained SWCD's work with local community Urban Development Projects and how it has expanded over time in the greater Chicagoland area. Kat concluded her presentation by detailing KDSWCD’s leadership in providing education to both the community and industry professionals. Chair Haider responded to this presentation and thanked Kat for coming today.

2026 Spring Sign Recycling Flyer

Joy Hinz, Environmental & Sustainability Programs Manager reminded the committee members about the upcoming Spring 2026 Sign Recycling event happening on March 20th-March 21st. Vice Chair Lucy Evans commented on the timing of this event and Joy clarified the thought process behind the decision on when to have this event for the public.
8. OLD BUSINESS
Member Andrew Honig updated the committee with a brief overview of his meeting with the mayor of Lombard and SCARCE about reviving the Village's Recycling Extravaganza. County Board Member Paula Deacon Garcia requested information regarding existing educational programs that promote best practices for the disposal of 'flushable' wipes. Nicholas Kottmeyer - Chief Administrative Officer and Director of Public Works responded to Paula and shared about how much of an environmental hazard 'flushable' wipes can be. Chair Haider responded to all comments by expressing the need to brainstorm and collaborate on ways to educate the community on the proper disposal of 'flushable' wipes.
