District 181 brings portable planetarium experience to local schools
The Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181 is offering students a unique educational experience this semester with the return of the Star Lab, a portable and inflatable planetarium. The Star Lab provides an interactive way for students to learn about astronomy by simulating the night sky.
First-grade students are participating in immersive presentations focused on the sun, moon, and stars. These sessions allow them to observe celestial patterns in a 360-degree environment, which supports their understanding of how the solar system works. Fifth and seventh graders will also use the Star Lab later in the semester, with content tailored to their science curriculum, including topics such as planetary motion, gravity, and galactic structures.
The initiative is supported financially through a partnership between District 181 and the D181 Foundation. According to district officials: "The Foundation’s commitment to funding innovative educational tools ensures that D181 students have access to unique, high-impact learning opportunities that go beyond the traditional textbook. This collaboration continues to foster a 'future-ready' environment where curiosity and technology meet."
