D181 shares leadership strategies at annual statewide education conference

Superintendent Hector Garcia, Board of Education President Bill Cotter, Board Secretary Grace Shin, and district attorney Joseph J. Perkoski from Robbins Schwartz presented a session titled “From Negative Headlines to High-Impact Board Leadership” at the recent Joint Annual Conference (JAC). The event drew educational leaders and board members from across Illinois.

The JAC is organized annually by the Illinois Association of School Boards for school board members, superintendents, and business officials in the state. The conference covers topics such as school finance, community engagement, educational equity and advocacy, technology, and collective bargaining. It is considered one of the largest state education conferences in the country and a leading training event for Illinois school leaders.

Attendees responded positively to D181’s presentation. Afterward, Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181 shared strategies and tools intended to support effective governance for boards and administrative teams.

Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181 serves schools in DuPage and Cook counties including Clarendon Hills Middle School, Elm Elementary School, Hinsdale Middle School, Madison Elementary School, Monroe Elementary School, Oak Elementary School, Prospect Elementary School, The Lane Elementary School, and Walker School. According to data from the Illinois State Board of Education reported by Illinois Report Card, D181 employs 282 teachers with an average salary of $94,227 before pension contributions; 90 percent are women while 10 percent are men. No teachers in the district have more than ten absences per year.
